Audio Text

Now, listen again reading along with the writen text.

Let's try and remember what life was like when we were six. I could go to school and was in the first grade of elementary school. I had a lot of friends and we all learned to read and write. We could add and subtract too, but we didn't know how to multiply or divide.

I liked my teacher a lot, but recess on the playground was the most fun. We all liked to play tag and hopscotch. Sometimes we played soccer too. If it was too sunny, we just sat in the shade and gossiped talking about everything that had happened in school that week. What did you like best?

I liked to ride the merry go round and eat cotton candy, but I didn't like vegetables. I loved to watch cartoons on TV and play computer games.

There were lots of things I still had to learn. For example, I didn't know how to drive a car or even ride a bicycle very well yet. I couldn't cook my own dinner and my parents wouldn't let me go to the park alone. I could brush my hair by myself and I knew how to brush my teeth also.

I had some strange ideas. I thought the moon was made of green cheese and believed in the tooth fairy. I was afraid of goblins and monsters. Sometimes I had nightmares and couldn't sleep. Were you afraid of anything?

I didn't like clowns because they scared me. I got very angry when the boys pulled my pigtails.

Sometimes I was very naughty. I liked to paint, but often I drew pictures on the walls too. When it rained, I liked to splash in mud puddles and sometimes my clothes got very dirty. What did you do?

I liked to play with water and sometimes I got all wet. Once in a while I fought with my younger brother when he broke my toys.
